What we do

Our services

Surveys, bulk sampling, ongoing re-inspections and practical advice to help you manage asbestos responsibly.

01 / MANAGEMENT

Asbestos Management Surveys

A management survey helps property owners, landlords and dutyholders identify and manage asbestos-containing materials during the normal use of a building. It involves inspecting the property for suspected asbestos, assessing the condition of any materials identified and considering where they could be disturbed during everyday activities or routine maintenance. The findings are presented in a clear report to help you understand what is present and how it should be managed. Surveys are undertaken in accordance with HSG264 guidance.

02 / REFURBISHMENT

Asbestos Refurbishment Surveys

Planning renovations, alterations or refurbishment work? It is important to establish whether asbestos-containing materials could be disturbed before work begins. A refurbishment survey involves a more intrusive inspection of the areas affected by the proposed works, including concealed spaces and parts of the building fabric where necessary. The findings help contractors plan work safely, identify materials that need attention and reduce the risk of unexpected asbestos discoveries once work is underway. Surveys are undertaken in accordance with HSG264 guidance.

03 / DEMOLITION

Asbestos Demolition Surveys

Preparing a building for demolition? A demolition survey is designed to identify asbestos-containing materials throughout the building before demolition work begins. This involves a comprehensive, fully intrusive inspection of the building fabric, including concealed spaces and difficult-to-access areas. Where necessary, destructive investigation is carried out to locate materials that would otherwise remain hidden. The findings provide important information for planning asbestos removal and helping demolition contractors carry out their work safely. Surveys are undertaken in accordance with HSG264 guidance.

04 / RE-INSPECTIONS

Asbestos Re-inspections

Asbestos-containing materials that are being managed in place need to be monitored to make sure their condition has not changed. A re-inspection involves a periodic inspection of previously identified materials, checking for signs of damage, deterioration or disturbance since the last assessment. The findings help property owners and dutyholders keep their asbestos records up to date and decide whether any further action is needed. This supports ongoing asbestos management arrangements in accordance with CAR 2012.

05 / CONSULTANCY

Asbestos Consultancy & Advice

Not sure which asbestos survey you need, or what to do after asbestos has been identified? Polar Environmental provides straightforward, independent advice to property owners, landlords, dutyholders and contractors. Whether you are planning building work, reviewing an existing asbestos report or looking for guidance on managing asbestos in a property, we can help explain the requirements and the practical steps to consider. Our advice is informed by current guidance and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

06 / BULK SAMPLING

Asbestos Bulk Sampling

Concerned that a particular material might contain asbestos? Bulk sampling can help establish whether asbestos is present in a specific material, such as a ceiling coating, floor tile or insulation board. A small sample is carefully collected and sent to an independent UKAS-accredited laboratory for analysis. We then explain the result in clear terms so you can make an informed decision about what to do next. Bulk sampling is useful for checking individual materials, but it does not replace a full asbestos survey where one is required.
